Over it

In the northern hemisphere bloggers are complaining about their long cold winters and their need for spring. Here I am so over summer. It is autumn and it is 29 degrees (celsius), which is completely inappropriate. Tasmania should know better. The dirt has gone to dust and I suck it in when I dig in the garden; the 'lawn' has never looked so sad and uninviting; the flies ... the flies! the flies!

We are currently trying to rebuild a bit of a financial buffer and so have imposed a limit on petrol: one tank per month. That's almost gone and it's only the 15th, and so there's no trip to the beach. I am dying for something cool and blue.

Thus, I planted some of these:

Delayed gratification, yes, but cool and calming and something to get me through these dog days of summer.

Blue is such a soothing colour....and that is a wonderful shade of soothing. We have been sweltering in Adelaide...39+ day after day. At first the kids were building igloos from wet sheets to cool down in. Now we are just climbing the walls!

Oh Kris, I'm with you, I was over summer a month ago.

My garden matches your description also, I have such a mental block about watering these days, and never a lawn, hello autumnal rain?

Hi, I agree! Launceston is so nice in Autumn. I feel guilty about not appreciating the warmth - because I know come August I will be wanting some - but bring on PROPER autumn weather!!

Yeah, it's the inappropriateness of the heat. There's a time and a place for this sort of thing, and it's Brisbane in January. I can't face watering much, either, Gillian, it feels such a waste of water because it all has to be done the next day. Are we in drought down here? I can't believe it's not been declared (though maybe it has).

But Bird Bath, 39 is just awful. I can't understand how you get through that with kids.

Is that lupine? Oh, I'm so ready for another Alaskan summer with fields of wild flowers. I hope you get some cooler weather soon.
